Sixth Series (2002-Present)
Aquaman logo Aquaman, who had been in the Justice League, was apparently killed during DC's 2001 Our Worlds at War crossover event. He returned quickly, however, becoming a major focus of the Justice League's "The Obsidian Age" storyline in 2002. In the wake of this popular storyline, DC launched a new Aquaman ongoing series written by comics great Rick Veitch, only recently returned to DC after a long-standing fued between him and the company.
Veitch scripted the title for twelve issues and a special before departing. Two fill-in issues followed before the title was given over to writer Will Pfeifer, hot because of his scripting of DC's critically acclaimed series, H-E-R-O. Pfeifer sought to generate a renaissance for the character, launching the extended storyline "American Tidal" that began with the destruction of San Diego.
