  • LCD
LCD was a black-and-white comic full of twisted little short comics. Originally a mini-comic photocopied at Kinko's in 1997,
Garth Ennis spread the word to friends and in the letter column of Preacher #33. Apparently, a second mini-comic followed in 1998. 1999 saw the first full-size issue, numbered #0. Three additional issues followed.
In April 2000, nearly a year after LCD #0 was published, Starbucks initiated a lawsuit against Kieron Dwyer for copyright and trademark infringement, as well as trademark dilution, over the "Consumer Whore" logo on the issue's cover, clearly a parody of Starbucks's logo. A major problem for Dwyer was that the parodic logo had been used on, according to him, around 200 T-shirts and some stickers -- and this merchandise was not given the same protection given to printed parody. A settlement was reached in early April 2001 that apparently removed the parodic logo from all further publications or products.
