The Failed Revivals (1995-1999)
In 1995, in the wake of the massacre of the Punisher titles, a new series was started. It lasted less than two years, concluding in 1996. Following this, Punisher was killed.
Marvel's successful "Marvel Knights" line tried to revive the Punisher in a four-part mini-series in 1998. It had dead Frank Castle return as an agent of Heaven. Though fans detested this supernatural element, the series was successful. A four-part mini-series co-starring Wolverine, and illustrated in a style reminiscent of manga, quickly followed in 1999.
