James Robinson's Starman Era (1994-2001)
Starman was one of five titles DC launched in the month following the month-long weekly crossover, Zero Hour. Each title began with a issue numbered zero. The other titles included such masterpieces as R.E.B.E.L.S. and Fate. Starman immediately took off, spurred by idiosyncratic art and by writing that incorporated the DC Universe's past with a new hero whose attitude and tatoos seemed contemporary and outside the usual brightness of DC. Moreover, the series had a well-designed and interesting super-hero city for its setting. Within about two years, it was the only title of the bunch left.
