With the Titans gone from the DC universe, writer Devin Grayson brought
them back with a new team that combined the elder original Teen Titans with newer characters.
To ensure the series's success, the title was launched following JLA / Titans, a
mini-series out of which the new team would emerge, exploiting the popularity of
Grant Morrison's JLA. The mini-series
featured dense writing and spectacular art by the always beautiful Phil Jimenez -- and proved a
great success as well as great fun. The series, simply entitled Titans, launched the
month following the mini-series's conclusion. Boosted by JLA / Titans, the Titans ongoing was initially a
success. After Devin Grayson left as writer, however, the title was roundly thought to be
floundering. As Titans began with a mini-series, so it ended with one --
moreover, both were crossovers between two teams. In 2003's Titans / Young Justice:
Graduation Day, the two teams fell apart, paving the way for a new era.
