Transmetropolitan is dystopian comic book by Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson, published by DC’s Helix imprint (for the title’s first year, 1997-1998) and then by DC’s Vertigo imprint (1998-2002). It stars Spider Jerusalem, a cynical journalist living in a fictional city simply called “the City.”
In the early issues, Spider explores different aspects of the city and acquires his two “filthy assistants.” Eventually, the story found its antagonist in the Smiler, who is elected to the U.S. presidency at the end of the title’s second year. Spider eventually decides to take him down, succeeding in the penultimate issue.
